Coaxial (concentric) stimulatory electrodes are designed for bipolar electrical stimulation.
The coaxial stimulatory electrodes are customizable. The core electrode is a 15, 20, 25 or 40 micron platinum/iridium wire, which is concentrically placed into a 185 micron stainless steel tube. This tube forms the other contact. The electrode is sharpened to facilitate dura penetration and precise, localized stimulation of the tissue. The tip angle is according to customer requirement.
These probes are available with or without polyimide tubing insulation over the stainless steel tube. In case of the insulated version one contact is the tip, the other is a conical ring.
This design is suitable also for recording large number of neurons both for acute or chronic applications.
