MB AC shocker, 1-channel, floating, isolated

from Supertech

A ROBUST, handy and easy to use lab animal shocker device.
Warranty:
5 years
Lead time:
Max. 10 weeks

Small Animal AC (alternative current) Shocker is a ROBUST, handy lab animal shocker. Its internal circuitry is based on a constant current generator operating on the mains frequency. The current generator is simplified, but the safety level of this equipment is as good as of the DC Shocker. AC Shocker has got three security isolation barriers. Its output is totally isolated (floating output) for the sake of the safety for the operator and the subject. Furthermore it has isolation from other electronic devices such as physiological stimulators that may be in use concurrently. Isolation is performed by using an isolated power supply transformer along with 4 kV optical isolation of the inputs from the control equipment.

Specifications and Technical Data:

  • AC current generator at the output
  • The output waveform is bipolar sine wave
  • Current range at the output: 0.05 to 2 mA
  • Output load range: 0 (shortcut) to open circuit (any load is allowed)
  • Compliance (open circuit) voltage: 180 V AC RMS
  • If the compliance voltage is reached in constant current mode, the output behaves as an AC voltage source of 180 V RMS (the current is determined by the Ohm´s law).
  • Working (shocking) frequency: 50 Hz or 60 Hz (equals to the mains frequency)
  • Typical load impedance at output (e.g. sole of a rat on a shocking grid): 10 kOhm
  • Mains voltage: 230 V or 115 V (set by the factory)
  • Tolerance of the mains voltage: +/- 10 %
  • Output current adjustment with a 10-turn helical potentiometer
  • Manual or computer-controlled activity (may be used together, independently from each other)
  • Control input: TTL H-level is active (overvoltage protected up to 40 V)
  • Double security insulation from mains
  • Double security insulation for output
  • Security isolated control input

Security Rules

The output of the AC Shocker  is able to produce extremely large current and voltage in relation to biological objects. From this virtue comes its disadvantage (which is by the way valid for all professional shocker devices): AC Shocker  equipment in the case of unprofessional, incautious, or negligent usage can cause life threatening electric shock on the subject, or the person making the experiment (henceforward: the operator). AC Shocker equipment is able to apply a maximum 180 V of AC voltage and 2 mA of AC current. These data far exceed the life threatening or lethal limit. Please study it carefully before using the equipment!

Fields of applications

The output current range (0.05 – 2.0 mA) is quite wide to cover many research applications. This range is suitable even from small mice to bigger experimental animals (such as rats). The precision potmeter for adjusting the output current gives a great resolution to optimize the level of the shocking current.
